A Personal Letter from Dr. Dawn Mussallem

I Have Stared Death in the Face Twice. Here Is What I Now Give My Body Every Morning.

After 25 years in medicine, surviving stage IV cancer at 26, and receiving a heart transplant at 47 — I have learned something profound about what the human body truly needs to not just survive, but to feel fully alive.

A Note on My Relationship with IM8

I am a Founding Scientific Advisor to IM8 Health and have a financial relationship with the company. I am telling you this first, because I believe in radical transparency — and because I spent most of my career skeptical of supplements. I reviewed the science. I pushed on the formulations. I only agreed to be part of this because I believed it was genuinely different. I take it every morning. So do many of my patients.

What Two Near-Death Experiences Taught Me About the Body

I have two medical credentials that matter more than anything on my wall. The first is 25 years as a physician — integrative oncologist, Mayo Clinic consultant, Chief Medical Officer of Fountain Life, where we are redefining what preventive medicine looks like.

The second is my own medical history.

Stage IV non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at 26. A bone marrow transplant. Four months hospitalized. Then two decades of heart failure, advancing silently while I practiced medicine, ran half-marathons, and raised my daughter. A cardiac arrest in front of my Mayo Clinic colleagues. And finally, on February 5th, 2021, a heart transplant — followed, one year and one day later, by a marathon finish line.

Being both the physician and the patient gave me something no medical training could: I know what it feels like from the inside. I know the fear of a terminal diagnosis. I know what it is to lie in a hospital bed and make a choice — not a passive choice, not a resigned choice, but a fierce, committed, daily choice — to give your body every possible reason to fight.

And I know what it feels like when that choice pays off.

"My most important credential is not on my wall. It is written in my own medical history."

4 AM, a Stationary Bike, and a Mountain Sunrise

Three months into medical school, I collapsed walking up a flight of stairs. The diagnosis was stage IV aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. I was 26 years old. My doctors gave me three months to live.

I joined a clinical trial. Chemotherapy. Radiation. A bone marrow transplant that required four months in the hospital. My medical team, unable to keep me confined to my bed, had a stationary bike delivered to my floor.

Every morning at 4 AM, before the other patients woke up, I rode that bike. There was a large window in front of me. I watched the sun rise over the Arizona mountains. I looked down the hallway at the other patients in their beds, and I thought about what it means to be alive.

"I believe that commitment — to movement, to nourishment, to choosing life actively — is part of why I am still here."
Dr. Dawn during her recovery journey
A journey through cancer, heart failure, and a transplant — shaping a physician who understands from both sides.

I survived. I graduated medical school. I became the oncologist I had always dreamed of being. But my body had paid a price. The treatments that saved my life at 26 were slowly damaging my heart.

By 2003, I was in advanced heart failure. For nearly 20 years I managed it. I gave presentations at Mayo Clinic, ran with my patients, published research. Then one afternoon, mid-presentation, my heart went into ventricular fibrillation. My internal defibrillator fired multiple times before it brought me back.

By early 2021, I was hospitalized, on IV support. Waiting. And then the call came.

February 5, 2021: A Borrowed Heart and a Renewed Mission

A matching heart had become available. A stranger had died so that I could live. I hold that truth with me every single day. It is the reason my mission is not abstract — it is urgent, personal, and non-negotiable.

Two weeks after my transplant, I walked out of the hospital unassisted. Three and a half months later, I ran my first 5K in twenty years. And on February 6, 2022 — one year and one day after receiving my new heart — I crossed the finish line of the Donna Marathon in Jacksonville, becoming the first person in history to run a full marathon just one year after a heart transplant.

I didn't do this to prove anything to the world. I did it because I believe, in the deepest part of who I am, that the body has a remarkable capacity to heal — and to thrive — when we give it what it truly needs.

"There is hope for everyone. If someone given three months to live at 26, who went through a bone marrow transplant and a heart transplant, can run a marathon and continue practicing medicine — there is hope for everyone."

What I Learned That No Textbook Could Teach Me

My journey confirmed what 25 years of clinical practice had shown me: the body's healing capacity is profound, but it is not unconditional. It requires comprehensive, daily support at the cellular level. Not in theory — in practice, every single day.

As Chief Medical Officer of Fountain Life — named Longevity Clinic of the Year 2025 — I work with the most advanced precision medicine tools available. AI-powered cardiovascular imaging. Full-body MRI. Multi-omics biomarker analysis. We are mapping the biological mechanisms of aging in real time for our patients.

What we are learning confirms what the research has been telling us: aging is not inevitable in the way we once believed. It is driven by specific, measurable, targetable biological processes — twelve hallmarks identified by leading researchers and now the roadmap for serious longevity science worldwide.

And here is what matters for your daily life: you do not need a Fountain Life membership to begin addressing those processes. You need the right daily nutritional foundation, at clinically meaningful doses, built on the actual science.

That is exactly what I helped build with IM8.

What I Take Every Morning — and Why I Helped Create It

When IM8 approached me, I was skeptical. I have spent my career watching the supplement industry overpromise and underdeliver to patients who deserved better. But when I reviewed the science behind their approach, I found something genuinely different: a team that wanted to address the root causes of aging, not just its symptoms.

We brought in Dr. James Green, NASA's former Chief Scientist, whose decades of research into accelerated aging in astronauts — bone loss, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular damage at extraordinary rates — translated directly to what we needed here. We added cardiologists, nutritionists, and researchers from Mayo Clinic and Cedars-Sinai. We built with clinical rigor.

IM8 Daily Ultimate Longevity contains two things in one scoop:

🌿THE FOUNDATION

The Essentials Pro Foundation

90 nutrient-rich ingredients supporting all 9 major organ systems at clinically meaningful doses — replacing 16 or more daily supplements. NSF Certified for Sport.

Validated in a 12-week randomized controlled trial (San Francisco Research Institute, NCT06655597):

95%

Improved energy

85%

Better digestion

80%

Better sleep

70%

Sharper focus

*These results are for the Essentials Pro foundation included in every serving of Longevity.

THE ADVANCED COMPLEX

The Advanced Longevity Complex

Targeting all 12 hallmarks of biological aging — these are not pixie-dust doses. They are therapeutic, peer-reviewed, and formulated to actually work.

300mg NMN for NAD+ Restoration

NAD+ is essential for cellular energy production. It declines by up to 50% between ages 40 and 60. NMN replenishes it — activating the longevity genes known as sirtuins.

Triple Senolytic Formula (Fisetin, Quercetin, Trans-Resveratrol)

Senescent "zombie cells" accumulate as we age, releasing inflammatory signals that accelerate damage. This complex targets and removes them.

Spermidine for Autophagy Activation

Autophagy is your body's cellular cleanup system. Spermidine activates this process — essentially giving your cells a deep clean.

"After everything my body has been through, I give my cells only what I genuinely believe in. Every morning at 5 AM, that means one scoop of IM8 Daily Ultimate Longevity. It is the most important thirty seconds of my day."

Hear It from Dr. Dawn

Dr. Dawn shares her story and why she takes this formula every morning.

A Message of Hope — and an Invitation

I share my story because I know what it is to sit with a terrifying diagnosis and not know what to do next. I know what it is to feel your body failing and to wonder whether the choices you make each day actually matter.

They do. More than medicine alone can address. More than any single intervention can deliver. The body's capacity to heal — and to thrive — when it is truly supported is one of the most profound things I have witnessed in 25 years of medicine and my own extraordinary life. I have lived that truth from both sides of the stethoscope.

Daily Ultimate Longevity is not magic. It is not a cure. It is the daily cellular foundation I give my own body — the body that survived cancer, survived heart failure, survived a transplant, and ran a marathon — because I know the difference it makes.

Whatever you are facing, whatever brought you here today — you have more power over your health than you may realize. Start here. Start with what I take every morning. And know that the choice to support your body, today and every day, is one of the most courageous things you can do.

"Every day is a gift. My journey has taught me that. I want to help you feel fully alive in yours."
